Scripture Reading

Genesis 11:26

26 When Terah had lived 70 years, he fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

Sermon Discussion Questions

  1. In what ways has your family background helped you follow God, and in what ways does your family create challenges to following God?

  2. Are there reasons you believe that God can’t use you? Perhaps you don’t have the “right” education or family or some other reason. Maybe you’ve been divorced twice. How does the story of Abram challenge these worries?

  3. As you follow God, are there things in your present life that need to change so that you can follow him more wholeheartedly? If so, what?

  4. In what ways was Jesus an unexpected outsider? Jesus being an outsider is part of his full identification with sinners. For example, he came as a child of a poor family and not as a prince. How does this part of the gospel encourage you? (See Hebrews 2:14–18.)
