“Come and see.”

When Jesus began his ministry, many people were skeptical of him. In fact, Nathanael (who eventually became one of Jesus’ disciples) was really suspicious when he first heard about Jesus of Nazareth. So he asked deridingly, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” (John 1:46). To this, Philip—who had told Nathanael about Jesus—simply responded: Come and see for yourself.

We recognize that many people today are, in a similar fashion, skeptical of church. Maybe you wonder, “Can anything good come from a church?” Like Philip, we invite you to come and see for yourself. We hope you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Some questions you might have.

What should I wear?
People come to our services in jeans and t-shirts and in suits and ties. There’s no set standard. We mostly just want you to come and to be comfortable. We’re not partial one way or the other. In fact, it seems this is how Christian worship services are supposed to be (cf. James 2:1-4).

How long are the services?
We currently have two Sunday morning worship services: 9:00 and 10:45 am.

Do you have childcare?
During the first service we provide nursery care, a 2’s and 3’s class, and Children’s Church for 4yrs. - kindergarten. During the second service we provide nursery care, a 2’s and 3’s class, a class for 4yrs. - kindergarten, an elementary Sunday School class for 1st-5th grades, and a Youth Sunday School class for grades 6-12.

What happens in the services?
During the worship services and Sunday school, we spend time reading and studying the Bible. We do this because we believe it’s one of the primary ways God communicates about who he is and how his followers should live. If this is true (and we sincerely believe it is), then the Bible is a pretty important book and worthy of our serious attention.

In the worship services, we also thank God for what he has done and who he is in a number of other ways. We sing songs praising God; we thank God in times of prayer and giving; and, we regularly spend time worshiping God as we hear what he is doing around Harrisburg and the world.

Do you have adult Sunday School Classes?
We have an adult Sunday School class that meets each week during the second service in the church café. The purpose of Sunday School at Community Evangelical Free Church is to provide biblically faithful, practical, and gospel-centered teaching in an interactive and discussion-oriented format through which we can—in community—respectfully engage and wrestle with biblical truth. It’s our goal to provide a safe space for asking honest questions and sharing personal insights. Our prayer is that God would use this ministry to deepen our love for him and his Word while simultaneously growing our church’s passion for the gospel.

What if I have other questions?
We recognize that we may have missed something you would like to know if you’re thinking about visiting us, so if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to email our Office Manager, Kira Bock.
